Dirty Plates / Speckled / Blowing / Not Filling

This is very often caused by a problem in the toner assembly. The toner should be completely emptied and thoroughly vacuumed out on a regular basis and refilled with clean fresh toner. Another cause may be the 2 toner drive belts. These are on the chain side of the magazine and run vertically. Both belts must be in place, clean, and tight. The belts will stretch in time. The pulleys must also be clean. Use a good grade of alcohol to clean all of these.

The oiler wicks in the fuser assembly can also contribute to dirty plates. There are two wicks, one on top of the upper fuser drum and one on the bottom of the lower fuser drum. These wicks not only keep the drums clean, but also lubricate the drums causing a fine film of oil on the drums to protect them and also give a film of oil between the drums to move against each other. These drums are under extreme pressure and with out the oil may cause more problems in the entire fuser assembly. 3M recommended the oiler wicks be replaced when dirty, dry, or dirty plates.

You may be able to make Electrostatic plate directly from your laser printer. Use the same etch and same press settings.
